ICAN Seattle meets monthly on the second Monday of the month, from 7-9 pm. Our monthly meetings are held at Whole Foods -Interbay in the “Chill Room” in the front part of the store. Whole Foods- Interbay is located at 2001 15th Ave W, Seattle, WA 98119 Click for maps and directions.
Meetings are open to anyone, those who have had a cesarean, those who are pregnant and on the VBAC journey, first time moms hoping to avoid a cesarean, doulas, doctors, midwives, anyone passionate and concerned about the state of maternity care and the high cesarean rate in our community.
The meetings are engaging, respectful, informative and healing. Please, come be a part of our community.
Babes in arms are permitted at our evening meetings, but we politely request that older infants and children remain at home, so as to minimize distractions and interruptions during our limited time together.
For more information, please contact one of the co-leaders, Sharon Muza (sharon@newmoonbirth.com) or Marcia Fischer (m-fischer@earthlink.net)
We also have a yahoo group that is very active and full of supportive women. Request to join!
June 9th, 2009
The June meeting was attended by 18 people, including 6 people who came to their first meeting.
We discussed all sorts of things including:
Induction and augmentation of labor in VBAC
The pros and cons of an epidural for a VBAC
The challenges in getting substantiated “true” information from providers and where to find evidence-based information about VBAC
The difficulties in interviewing providers when many providers are unwilling to do meet-and-greets
How to get real data/hospital’s stats re: VBAC (success rates, total numbers, etc.)
How to decide who to trust when interviewing providers
Single layer vs. double layer suture debate
Getting hospital records and how to determine if they are complete
How to overcome the fear(s) of the same things happening in a subsequent labor/birth that happened previously
The third trimester ultrasound with regard to measuring scar thickness as well as estimating fetal size
Fetal macrosomia and whether or not that increases the risk of uterine rupture
And finally, birth stories from Gretchen and Ashley who came with their lovely little baby girls and told us about their VBACs – Congratulations again!
It is my understanding that kids aren’t allowed at these meetings, right? I have always really wanted to come, but childcare is a hard thing for me to find sometimes. Just thought I would ask, so as to confirm.
Thanks.
Babes in arms are welcome at all meetings, but once they are mobile, we ask that they stay at home, so that the meetings are able to proceed with minimal interruptions and distractions. Our daytime meetings are held in a kid-friendly place and children of any age are welcome to attend, at their parents’ discretion.
Current meetings? I am interested in attending.
Beth, and everyone! all, meetings are still being held, and starting tonight, we are meeting the second Monday of the month at Dragonfly Holistic Healing 760 N. 34th Street, in Fremont. 7-9. We would love to have you join us! Even tonight!
wondering when the next ICAN meeting is…thanks!
ICAN Seattle meets monthly on the second Monday of the month, from 7-9 pm. Our monthly meetings are held at Dragonfly Holistic Healing, in the Fremont Neighborhood, 760 N. 34th St., Seattle, WA 98103. The next meeting is Monday, January 11th.
When are the daytime meetings? I don’t have childcare available.
At this time ICAN Seattle does not have formal daytime meetings. There has been an informal attempt to have daytime meetings with children, that has not been successful. Our suggestion would be to join the yahoo group, and offer to host or coordinate at a public location, and those that are interested and able to attend will. Our volunteer leaders are unable to coordinate a “leader hosted” daytime meeting at this time.
I’d love to attend a meeting, but it’s looks like it’s been a while since the last post here. Are meetings ongoing?
Sarah, we meet the second Monday of the month, ongoing, at Whole Foods Interbay, in the Chill Room! Hope to see you there at 7 pm!
